site titles and display names

After having just got out of a meeting related to Sakai CLE
implementation, I just want to confirm something really basic about a
Course:

Is it the case, as I am assuming based on the current UI, that there
is no distinction between a course title and a display name or title?

E.g. if my institution automatically assigns course titles that are
primarily for institutional purposes, and these titles can be long and
awkward (say something like "Geo 101 E G F; Fall 2011, Introduction to
Geography), is there no way to have a separate display name or title
configurable by an instructor?

Or is there some other way that OAE could tackle the tensions here?
