[oae-urg] Draft revised roadmap

Hi folks,

I wanted to share some comments from our Project Manager, Eli Cochran about the proposed roadmap. We didn't bring them up during the call yesterday because we are all in agreement with moving forward with the proposed roadmap. However, we did want to share some concerns he had in the hopes that there may be work-arounds or ways to address these concerns, and to emphasize some areas that were of major importance to us (e.g. the caching problem and migration framework):

================================
From Eli:

In general, I am fine with the proposed roadmap.

However, I have some specific comments:

> Phase 2:  1.1.0 Release (December 15, 2011)

- My number 1 thing in 1.1 is solving the cache problem. We need this ASAP so that we can roll out new UI without burdening our users.
- We are in production with real users and real data. Migration Framework is critical for us.

> - Implementation of Simple Group and Content Collections

-- Ambitious implementation of relatively new un-vetted designs. It would be nice to be able to test these new designs with users before they are implemented than after. This is a general comment. My opinion is that we could have avoided a lot of rework if we'd user tested designs for 1.0 before they were implemented. Even testing the click-through prototypes with a handful of "real" users.

> Phase 3: 1.1.1 Release (February 3, 2012)

- This date is a little late for us. I have two needs for the SDK as early as Jan; student hires, and STC student dev contest. However, I'm fine with the date if we can leverage a "pre-release" SDK and code which I've been told that we can.

> Phase 4:  1.2 Release (April 15, 2012)

- Great date. Would like to see annotations earlier so that we could test them before the end of the term with real pilot courses.

> Phase 5:  2.0 Release (June 15, 2012)

- Also a great date. We will have no problems rolling it out in mid-August for our Fall release If we can actually get this code in June,. Any date past mid-July puts us at risk. A gentle reminder how much we slipped for the 1.0 release.

Allison
